Counseling Office

A variety of services are available in the Counseling Office and they are listed below.  You can sign up on the sheet located in the reception area for many of these items.  A counselor will call you in as soon as they are available to do so.  If you are in crisis, let the Secretary know and a counselor can be informed right away. Parents can email or call to make an appointment if they would like to meet with a counselor.

ACT / SAT Information

ACT and SAT test scores are used by colleges and universities in making admissions decisions.  The ACT is a component of the MME test given to all juniors in the spring.  Subsequent ACT and SAT tests can be taken a number of times and the highest score will be accepted by the colleges.  Students who feel they have not achieved their optimal score should retake the exams early in their senior year.  Many scholarships are tied to test scores and an increase of even one point on the ACT could mean receiving a scholarship.  Michigan schools require the ACT test, not the SAT.  If you are considering out of state schools you will need to contact their admissions requirements to determine if you must take the SAT.

A limited number of ACT fee waivers are available in the counseling office for students who receive free or reduced lunch.  You are only allowed to use one fee waiver.

ACT and SAT test dates and information are located under Resources on this page.

*STUDENTS*

All information that you share with a counselor is confidential, however, there are some limits to this.  For example, if you are threatening to harm yourself or someone else or if there is suspected abuse, we are mandated by law to report it.  All students have the right to terminate individual counseling at any time unless it is part of a written contract or court mandated.  Counselors are sometimes asked to provide information to insurance companies, courts, or agencies.
