Project Citizen

What is Project Citizen?

Project Citizen is a program that all NPS 5th grade students participate in each school year. This highly successful program consists of community projects that enable our students to learn about service to others in our community as part of the Social Studies curriculum.

What Do the Students Do?

Some of the activities that all 5th grade students participate in include:
Writing letters to veterans
Standing Against Bullying in School
Planting Trees
Raking leaves at sites around the City of Newaygo
Toys for Tots
Wrapping & Donating Books for Elementary Students at Christmas
Milk Jug Recycling
Reading Month Activities
Earth Day Activities
Staff Appreciation Activities

State Recognition

In 2013, Newaygo's Project Citizen Program was honored in the Community Engagement category by the Michigan Association of School Boards. It was one of only 26 programs from across the entire state of Michigan to be honored.
