High School/Middle School Procedures
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast is served every day and on half days of school. Cereal, toast, juice, and milk are offered every day, with a hot breakfast option offered on Wednesdays. The lunch menu is the same for the Middle School and the High School and includes choice of milk with all full meal purchases. Both schools offer many other entree items along with the entree listed on the menu. Pizza, subs, chef salads, hot sandwiches, and other hot entree items are offered on a daily basis. Included with a full lunch is our all you can eat fruit and vegetable bar. These items may include; salad lettuce, assorted fresh fruit, canned fruit, cottage cheese, raw vegetables, and hot vegetables. Students are also offered the option of purchasing a second entree for $.75 with a full meal purchase. This may be charged to their account. The snack room is another option offered in each school where students may purchase other items, such as sport drinks, water, milk, pizza slices, pretzels, boscoe sticks, and other assorted snack items. These items can only be purchased with cash, but are recorded on your students account. If a student has charges on their account they will not be allowed to purchase anything from the snack room until the charges are paid in full.

Meal Procedure, Deposits, Charging Policy, and Negative Balance Notification
Students at the High School and Middles enter their student ID number into the pin pad located at the cash register to purchase meals from their account. Students at the high school are allowed to purchase meals with cash but still are required to enter their ID number to record purchases. Students in both schools may deposit money by filling out the deposit envelope and putting the amount of cash or check into the envelope and turning it into one of the cashiers or placing it in the deposit box located in the kitchen. Students at the High School and Middles School are allowed one meal charge only, and are offered a peanut butter sandwich and white milk at no charge if they do not have money and have exceeded the charge limit. Negative balance notes are not sent home for High School and Middle School students. Students are notified at the time of meal purchase when they have $3.00 or less in their account and that they will need to deposit more money into their account. Students who have meal charges are not allowed to purchase items from the snack bar until charges have been paid in full. While the Newaygo Public Schools Food Service Department does it's very best to inform students and parents when money is needed, it is strongly recommended that each parent keep track of when their students are purchasing meals to keep up with payments. The NPSFS reserves the right to deny charging of meals to individual accounts for non-payment and flagrant abuse of the charging policy. Any questions on account information may be directed to your student's individual school or Mary Anne Charette at 652-9286.

Velma Matson/Vera Wilsie School Procedures
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast is served every day and on half days of school. Cereal, toast, juice, and milk are offered every day, with a hot breakfast option offered on Wednesdays. The lunch menu is the same for Vera Wilse Elementary and Velma Matson Upper Elementary with a few differences between schools. Both elementary schools offer a cold sandwich as an option to the main entree every day and the sandwich changes weekly. The Upper Elementary offers pizza and other main entree options daily. Vera Wilsie students receive their main entree choice, vegetable, choice of fruit, and a milk for lunch. Velma Matson Students receive their main entree choice, milk and with each lunch they may go to our all you can eat fruit and vegetable bar.

Meal Procedure, Deposits, Charging Policy, and Negative Balance Notification
Students at the elementary building use their student ID cards to purchase their meals. Cards are located in card racks and are sorted by grade and classroom. Upon entering the cafeteria for meals the students pull their card out of the rack and hand it to the food service staff for us to deduct the meal from their account. Deposit envelopes are filled out in the morning and sent down to the cafeteria with the lunch count for that classroom each day. The charging policy for both elementary schools limits charges of meals for full paid students to $6.00, and reduced priced meal students to $2.00, which is the equivalent to 5 meals for both. If a student exceeds the limit they will be offered a peanut butter sandwich with white milk at no charge until charges are paid in full and money deposited into the account. Negative balance notes are written and sent home once a week for any student who has a negative balance after lunch on the day notes are sent home. Vera Wilsie negative balance notes are written and sent home on Mondays, and Velma Matson's on Wednesdays. In the event there is a half day of school, no school, or cancellation of school, notes will be sent home the following day. While the Newaygo Public Schools Food Service Department does it's very best to inform students and parents when money is needed, it is strongly recommended that each parent keep track of when their students are purchasing meals to keep up with payments.
